How far in advance should I buy a China eSIM?

The QR code stays valid for 30 days, so about one week before departure is ideal. Buying much earlier risks the code expiring before you travel.

Where in China does it work?

Coverage is nationwide, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. The plan runs on the local network.

Can I keep my own number active?

Yes. The eSIM is an additional data profile, so your physical SIM stays in the phone. Switch mobile data back to it when you get home.
