Got a New Phone? Whether Your eSIM Still Works Depends on Which Kind It Is
You changed handsets before the trip, or factory-reset the one you have. The first question is always the same: does the eSIM I already bought still work? There are two very different answers, so work out which case you are in first.
Carrier eSIMs and travel eSIMs behave differently
| Type | Transferable? | How |
|---|---|---|
| Your home carrier eSIM | Usually yes | iPhone-to-iPhone Quick Transfer; otherwise ask the carrier to reissue |
| A travel eSIM | Usually not | The profile is tied to the handset it installed on; a new device normally needs a reissue |
| A travel eSIM already activated | No | The day count runs regardless |
| Bought but not yet installed | No problem at all | The QR code is unused — just scan it on the new phone |
The last row is the important one. If you have not installed it yet, changing phones changes nothing. So if you already know a new handset is coming before you travel, do not install yet — wait for the new phone. That is by far the easiest path.
If it is already installed and you are switching
Before you factory reset
- ⚠️ A reset wipes eSIM profiles. iPhone’s Erase All Content and Settings asks whether to keep your plans — read that screen before tapping.
- ⚠️ Ask before sending a phone for repair. Repairs often involve a reset or a board swap, and the eSIM goes with it.
- ⚠️ If you have not left yet, do not install yet. Worth repeating — it is the most effective precaution there is.

Changing phones and eSIM FAQ
I have not installed it yet. Does changing phones matter?
Not at all. The QR code is unused, so scan it on the new handset. If you know a new phone is coming, wait and install on that one.
Can a travel eSIM be moved to a new phone?
Usually not. Travel profiles are generally bound to the handset they installed on. The built-in transfer tools work well for carrier plans but rarely for travel eSIMs. Ask your provider about reissuing before you try.
I already deleted it. Is it gone?
It depends on the plan — some can be reissued, some cannot. This is exactly why we say ask before deleting. Send us your order number and we will check.
Will a repair wipe my eSIM?
Very likely. A reset or a mainboard swap both clear it. If a repair is due before you travel, buy after the repair, or tell us first.
Will Peanutmo reissue?
It depends on the plan and whether it has been used. If it has not been activated, we can usually help. Once it is activated and the day count has started, we cannot. Send your order number to LINE at @peanutmo / WhatsApp +886-921-963-203 and we will answer on the spot.
