Thailand entry: the TDAC digital arrival card

Visa-free still means filing TDAC. This is the common misreading — not needing a visa does not mean not needing to declare.

Filed online, inside a time window. Too early is rejected, so handle it in the few days before departure.

Can I install my Thailand eSIM before I fly?

No. The Thai profile has to be installed after you arrive in Thailand — installing it early will invalidate it. Buy before you travel, screenshot the QR code into your photo album, then connect to free airport wifi after landing and scan it there.

How do I install an eSIM with no data connection?

Use the free airport wifi. Both Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang provide it. This is exactly why the QR code has to be saved as a screenshot beforehand — if it only lives in your inbox, you need data to open the thing that gives you data.

Anything to know about Songkran?

Waterproofing your phone, mostly. Streets get thoroughly soaked during Songkran and a waterproof pouch costs far less than a water-damaged handset. Transport and opening hours also shift during the festival, so keep the itinerary loose.

Do I still need TDAC if I enter visa-free?

Can I hotspot on a Thailand eSIM?

Most plans allow it, though it varies by handset and plan and we cannot promise every combination works. Phones already run hot and drain fast in Thai weather, and hotspotting makes both worse — for a group, one eSIM per phone is the more dependable setup.

Is there coverage in Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket?
