China, Hong Kong & Macao eSIM

The thing that decides this category is not coverage — it is whether your usual apps work at all. Every plan here routes so that Google, LINE, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp connect normally, with no VPN to install and nothing to configure. For mainland China only, take the China Mobile eSIM. If your trip crosses between the mainland, Hong Kong and Macau, take the China Unicom regional eSIM instead of buying two.

Which China, Hong Kong or Macao eSIM should you choose?

How to choose, plan comparison and FAQs (tap to open)

Start with your route. A mainland-only trip — Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu — is best served by the China Mobile profile, which uses the largest network in the country and reaches well beyond the tier-one cities. A trip that touches two or three of the territories should use the regional China Unicom plan: one profile stays live as you cross, so you are not swapping anything at the Zhuhai border or on the ferry to Macau.

Plan Network Covers Plan styles Trip length

China–Hong Kong–Macau Regional eSIM China Unicom Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau 5/10/20/30GB total, 1/2/3GB per day, or unlimited 3–30 days

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Google, LINE and Instagram in mainland China with this eSIM?

Yes. The routing on these profiles reaches overseas services directly, so Google, Google Maps, LINE, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp all work without installing a VPN or changing any settings on your phone.

Do I need a VPN as well?

No. That is the whole point of these profiles — the unrestricted routing is built in. You do not need to buy, install or configure a VPN before you fly, which also avoids the problem of VPN apps being hard to download once you are already in the country.

Which plan should I buy for a Hong Kong plus mainland trip?

The China–Hong Kong–Macau regional plan on China Unicom. It stays active across all three territories, so you install once and keep the same number throughout the trip.

Is a separate Macau eSIM needed if I already have the Hong Kong one?

No. The Hong Kong plan works in Macau and the Macau plan works in Hong Kong, so one covers both. You only need the regional plan if you are also going into the mainland.

Does TikTok work?

TikTok is the exception on the Hong Kong routing. Every other major app — Google, LINE, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp — connects normally.
