Korea Cherry Blossom 2027: Following the Front from Jeju to Seoul

Korea's cherry blossom season is shorter than Japan's and the country is more compact, so there is less room to adjust if you mistime it. This guide covers how the front moves north, how long the good window really is, what to know about Jinhae and Yeouido, and what a day of blossom viewing does to your phone.

How the bloom moves through Korea

RegionRough timingNotes
JejuSecond half of MarchKing cherry trees, earliest in the country
Busan and JinhaeLate March into early AprilJinhae is the largest blossom destination, with the festival held in the same window
Daegu and GyeongjuAround the end of MarchHistoric sites with blossom, crowds more spread out than Seoul

Gangwon-do and inlandEarly to mid AprilA few days behind the capital, useful if you are travelling late

(Approximate recent-year ranges, compiled October 2026.) Korean forecasters publish the current year's outlook in February and March, so check it again before you book.

Ten good days, and how to land inside them

  • Book to arrive just after the forecast peak rather than at first bloom. The trees hold their shape for three to five days after full bloom.
  • City centres run three to five days ahead of the suburbs, so an early arrival can still be rescued by moving outward.
  • The season has crept forward by two to four days over the last decade, so planning from older dates tends to leave you late.

Where people actually go

  • Yeouido, Seoul: the main road closes to traffic. The biggest scene and the most crowded, especially at dusk.
  • Seokchon Lake, Seoul: a loop walk, good for photographs, busiest on weekend afternoons.
  • Seoul Forest: more space and thinner crowds, easier with children.
  • Jinhae, Changwon: Yeojwacheon stream and Gyeonghwa Station are the two famous spots. Traffic controls during the festival mean you should allow extra travel time.
  • Busan: blossom-lined roads through the city and along the coast, easy to combine with a sea-view itinerary.

Why your phone works hard on a blossom day

  • Navigation: Google Maps is limited for driving directions in Korea, so you will be on Naver Map or Kakao Map, both of which need data.
  • Taxis and shuttles are booked in apps, and that matters most when everyone else is trying too.
  • Uploads slow down in dense crowds. Shoot first, post once you are clear of the crush.
  • Plans change on the day when the bloom runs early or late, and re-planning means more searching and more navigation.

The Korea native eSIM runs directly on SKT, the largest Korean carrier, with unlimited data and no throttling threshold, and covers Seoul, Busan and Jeju. The full plan comparison is in the Korea eSIM guide.

Two things to finish before you fly

1
File the arrival card. Korea's e-Arrival Card is completed online before you land. The field-by-field walkthrough is in the Korea e-Arrival Card guide.
2
Install the eSIM at home. Installation needs a connection, so do it on Wi-Fi before you leave, then switch on data roaming after landing at Incheon and book your ride straight away.

Korea cherry blossom 2027 FAQ

When do cherry blossoms bloom in Korea?

The front moves south to north. Jeju, Busan and Jinhae open earliest, usually in the second half of March. Seoul follows a few days later, from the end of March into early April, with peak most often in the first third of April. Gangwon-do and inland mountain areas come later still. Over the past decade warmer temperatures have pulled the season forward by roughly two to four days.

How long is the good viewing window?

About a week from first bloom to full bloom, and roughly ten good days overall. Even inside one city the centre runs three to five days ahead of the outskirts, so arriving slightly early can often be fixed by heading out of town, and arriving late by heading north or uphill.

When is the Jinhae Gunhangje festival held?

It is scheduled to sit inside the bloom period, which in practice means late March into early April, and the exact dates move each year with the forecast. Check the organiser's announcement for the year you are travelling rather than reusing last year's dates.

Is mobile data slow at the popular spots?

On peak weekends at Yeouido or Seokchon Lake, uploads slow noticeably. Korea also pushes you onto Naver Map or Kakao Map for navigation and an app for taxis, so you are on data all day. A profile running on SKT's own network holds up better than roaming.

How much data does a day of blossom viewing use?

Maps, taxis and photo uploads across a full day sit comfortably at about 2GB. If you will record video or share the connection, take the unlimited plan with no throttling threshold.
