Android eSIM Will Not Install? Five Causes and the Settings Path for Every Brand

Android eSIM problems are harder to diagnose than iPhone ones for a simple reason: every manufacturer names and places the menus differently. The same data roaming toggle sits inside SIM manager on Samsung, under SIMs on Pixel, and somewhere else again on Xiaomi. This article lists the paths by brand.

Five reasons an Android eSIM install fails

• ⚠️ The OS is out of date. eSIM needs a recent Android build and current carrier config. Run System Update first, then install.
• ⚠️ No connection. Installing downloads a profile, so you must be on wifi when you scan.
• ⚠️ A grey-import or region-specific model. Some handsets have the hardware but the firmware disables eSIM. If *#06# shows an EID and installation still fails every time, this is usually why.
• ⚠️ The eSIM slots are full. Delete a profile you are certain you are finished with.
• ⚠️ Carrier lock. Common on contract handsets; only the original carrier can unlock it.

The right-hand column is the one to remember. On Android the roaming toggle is nearly always inside the individual SIM, not on the outer mobile network page. This is where Android users get stuck most often.

One extra note for Pixel owners

Pixel users have recently reported intermittent eSIM dropouts that only clear after a restart. If you are on a Pixel and the connection was working and then suddenly died, do a full power-off and back on — it usually comes back. This is not a fault in the plan and you do not need to reinstall the profile.

*#06# shows an EID, so why will it not install?

An EID means the hardware supports eSIM; it does not guarantee the firmware allows it. Some grey-import and region-specific models have the feature disabled. Update the OS and retry, then send us the error screen if it still fails.

Where is data roaming on a Samsung?

Settings → Connections → SIM manager, then tap into the eSIM itself rather than staying on the list. The toggle is inside. Miss this and you get signal bars with no data at all.

Can Android hold several eSIMs at once?

It can store several, but only a limited number can be active — on most handsets one physical SIM plus one eSIM. Choose which one carries data in SIM manager.

Does a failed install burn the QR code?

Usually not, if the profile never actually installed. If a retry reports the code as already used, send us the screen and we will check whether to reissue.
