Türkiye e-Visa 2026: a Taiwan passport needs a visa — here is the online route
Türkiye is not visa-free for Taiwan passports, but Taiwan nationals can apply online. Working from Taiwan's Bureau of Consular Affairs listing and the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs' own rules, this guide sets out which visa applies, the stay limits, the two-part passport validity requirement, the one official channel, and the purposes an e-Visa does not cover.
Does a Taiwan passport need a visa for Türkiye?
Taiwan's Bureau of Consular Affairs lists Türkiye under electronic visa, stating that Taiwan nationals may apply online at https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/ for an e-Visa allowing multiple entries within six months and a combined stay of up to 30 days (list updated 23 July 2026).
The Turkish MFA's own page for foreign nationals likewise records that Taiwan ordinary and official passport holders require a visa, with ordinary passport holders able to obtain an e-Visa through evisa.gov.tr. This is unlike the straightforward visa-free entry Taiwan enjoys in Japan or Korea, so the visa step belongs in the planning timeline.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Visa treatment | Electronic visa (not visa-free) |
| Where to apply | https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/ |
| Entries | Multiple entries within six months |
| Stay limit | Up to 30 days in total |
| Passport validity | At least six months from arrival, plus 60 days beyond the last intended day of stay |
| Permitted purposes | Tourism and commerce; study and employment need a regular visa |
Türkiye passport validity: six months, plus 60 days
This is the requirement most often missed, and it has two layers:
- The passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival in Türkiye.
- Since 1 January 2015, it must also remain valid for 60 days beyond the last intended day of stay.
In practice, if you leave on 1 March, your passport needs to run past 30 April — while still satisfying the six-month rule from the arrival date. If your passport has under a year left, check both conditions before booking.
- ・Covers Istanbul, Ankara, Cappadocia and the main visitor routes
- ・No SIM swap: install before you fly, then switch on data roaming on arrival
- ・Refund guaranteed if the signal is unstable or the plan goes completely unused
Applying for a Türkiye e-Visa: one official address
When a Türkiye e-Visa does not apply
- Study and paid employment. The Turkish MFA states that the e-Visa covers tourism and commerce only; other purposes go through an embassy or consulate.
- More than 30 days in total. The Bureau of Consular Affairs listing caps the combined stay at 30 days; longer visits need the regular visa route.
- Insufficient passport validity. Under six months from arrival, or less than 60 days beyond your last intended day of stay, and the entry condition is not met.
Connectivity in Türkiye: planning around intercity travel
| Option | Suits | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| eSIM | Tourism and business trips; working on landing | Handset must support eSIM; install before departure |
| Local physical SIM | Longer stays | Passport registration, and some plans are tied to the handset IMEI |
| International roaming | Transits and very short trips | Higher rates; confirm the daily cap first |
| Hotel and café Wi-Fi | In-room and over a meal | Nothing at a balloon launch site, in an underground city, or on a long-distance coach |
A classic Türkiye itinerary spans Istanbul, Cappadocia and Pamukkale with plenty of coaches and domestic flights, and timetables, balloon bookings and ride-hailing all run on data. Plan comparisons sit in our Türkiye eSIM guide; if the same trip continues into the Schengen area, see the Europe eSIM guide.
Türkiye e-Visa: frequently asked questions
Do Taiwan passport holders need a visa for Türkiye?
Yes. Taiwan's Bureau of Consular Affairs lists Türkiye under electronic visa: Taiwan nationals may apply online at https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/ for an e-Visa allowing multiple entries within six months and a combined stay of up to 30 days (list updated 23 July 2026).
What validity does the Türkiye e-Visa carry?
Per the Bureau of Consular Affairs listing, Taiwan nationals can obtain an e-Visa valid for multiple entries within six months, with a combined stay of up to 30 days. The six months is how long the visa itself lasts; the 30 days is the total time you may spend in Türkiye within it. Whatever evisa.gov.tr shows at the time of application governs.
How much passport validity is required?
Türkiye requires at least six months of passport validity from the date of arrival. Since 1 January 2015 there is a second rule as well: the passport must remain valid for 60 days beyond the intended final day of stay.
Can an e-Visa be used for work or study?
No. The Turkish e-Visa is valid only for tourism or commerce. Work, study and other purposes require a visa issued by a Turkish embassy or consulate.
Which site is the official one?
Only www.evisa.gov.tr. Search results carry a number of visually similar agency sites that charge more and do not always reflect rule changes promptly.
